First established over 50 years ago, Rolair are far from a new company. Despite this fact, up until last month I had honestly never heard of them. There’s no shortage of big names in the air compressor industry. Rolair, however, really isn’t one of them.
Despite this fact, I decided to give the JC10 a try. And after using it for approximately one month, I am surprisingly impressed.
First off, let’s talk about what the JC10 can’t do. Considering the 200 dollar plus price tag, it’s not particularly powerful. PSI tops out at 90, CFM barely hits 2.35 and the tank holds a relatively meager 2.5 gallons.
This means that for most purposes, you’re not going to be powering drills, sanders and grinders. I’m not saying that it can’t be done, I’m just saying that they’re be a lot of starting and stopping going on.
And, let’s face it, for the same price, there’s no shortage of more suitable compressors for these purposes.
As I said at the start of this review however, I was impressed by this compressor. And that’s because if you use it for what it’s been designed for, it does a damn good job.
I’ve tested it extensively on nailers, frame guns, and trimmers, and it’s genuinely a pleasure to use. It’s quick to get going and unlike it’s more powerful counterparts, it doesn’t deafen you in the process.
I’ve used this compressor at night and while you can’t quite have a conversation over it, you won’t be getting any complaints from the neighbours and/or significant other.
Another perk of this compressor is the size and weight. Approximate dimensions are 17 x 16 x 15 and it weighs approximately 42 pounds. This makes for easy storage. And perhaps more importantly, it makes for easy transport if you ever need to do some work outside of the garage.
I also liked the handle at the top, which unlike some compressor handles actually seems to be designed minimize hand pain rather than increase it. The usual rubber feet can also be found on the bottom to avoid scratching the floor when working on fragile surfaces.
One month is nowhere near long enough to judge durability so I won’t offer any other comment except to say that it does appear to be very well made. I like this compressor though and expect to use it for quite some time. You can therefore expect an update within a few months.
The Rolair JC10 is one of the better reviews compressors on Amazon. At the time of writing, it’s been reviewed almost 150 times for an average rating of 4.6 stars out of 5. There are a few complaints about durability problems but given the fact that they make up less than 10 percent of reviews, I have no problem recommending it anyway.
There are two reasons not to buy this compressor. Number one is that you need something more powerful. Number two is that you’re not comfortable with the price. The first reason is perfectly valid. The second reason, however, I don’t really think it is.
The Rolair JC10 is a perfect example of how sometimes you get what you pay for. And as a result, if you’ve got the cash, the JC10 is an excellent purchase. In fact, I liked mine so much that you’ll probably be reading a few more Rolair reviews in the very near future.
